I'm new to the 1911 world, but is I just me or are there about eleventy-billion different mags out there. I'm in the process of purchasing a Kimber Pro TLE/RL II and I have no idea what kind of mags it takes other than 7-rders. Will any 7-rd mags work? I see commander/government/officer sizes. What size is a 4" 1911? Any help is greatly appreciated! |
It will accept any standard size magazine. Be aware that not all magazines are created equal and the magazine is very often the culprit when you experience malfunctions. Wilson Combat, Tripp Research Cobra Mags and Chip McCormick Power mags are the three top dogs in the world of 1911 magazines. |
The Gov't and Commander have the same frame size, so they are same mags, which are the "standard" 1911 mag. Kimber's equivalents are their Custom and Pro guns. The Colt Officer / Kimber Ultra guns have a shorter frame, so their mags are shorter and will not fit Gov't/Commander/Custom/Pro guns... although you can use the long "standard" mags in the shorter framed guns. |
Oh ok thank you very much for clearing that up! |
Gotcha, you hadn't specified, so I only checked the full size. Midway is claiming out of stock until April. WTF?!?!? |

Remember the, "good-ole-days" whe eBay sold mags? I picked up five-47d's for $100.00 BiN, (+ 10 buck USPS shipping). On the other hand, I've had great luck with the Novaks...both blued & nickel in my S&W Commander and Kimber Custom. I know that CProducts will be rolling out a 1911 mag in a couple months from what the Larry had stated on the other end of the forum. |
