I know that I need a slide and barrel made for 9mm, but what about the frame, can I use a .45 frame or do I need a 9 mm frame?

You really need either a 9mm / .38 sup frame with the correct feedramp angle, or you can use a ramped frame and avoid the issue. You can also have a .45 frame cut for a ramped barrel.

change out the ejector, and you could use a 45 frame.
I would go with a ramped barrel if i was going to build another one.
