What is your opinion on this conversion kit?

A friend called me and a shop we have dealt with for years got a half a dozen of these in at a discounted price.  ($195)   Apparently Kimber is getting out of the conversion business and closing these out.

I thought it might make a nice plinker if the quality is ok.

I have one, it works well after a little work.
1. needs full power ammo,40g Federal works in mine. Does not like the 36 gr bulk pack.
2. you will need a reduced power hammer spring. The slide has to overcome the hammer to recoil chamber a new round.
3. needs to be wet with oil. I use Mobil 1 10/30 on the slide rails.
4. the Ciner mags work well and hold 15 rds
Good luck

Thanks for the information.

The availability of Ciener magazines makes it more attractive, but having to change out the spring makes it les..

You may or may not have to change the spring. If you do it's a 1 min part swap and a two buck spring. Remember, all the .22'sKit's are "blowback"operated with an alloy slide. Thats way they need full power ammo. You have to push the slide over the hammer, that's hard to do if you have a 22 lb trigger spring.  May also be why most 22 pistols are striker fired. jmo

$195 is a steal!  I paid $299 for mine.  The slide to frame fit was VERY tight when I got it.  I worked the slide dry for a while and it "Worked in".  It has operated flawlessly with CCI Mini-Mags and is very accurate. I did not have to change springs but I did have to hit the safety notch in the slide with a couple strokes of a file before the safety would engage.

Thanks for the information.

I'll give my buddy a call.  He was curious and will probably pick one up.   I have a couple more AR's to build before I start dinking with 1911's again.

you may want to make sure it is a current kimber conversion.....it may be a ceiner close-out that he was liquidating after kimber gave him the boot.  they are slightly different.

I have a Kimber 22 conversion and it works great as long as I use high velocity ammo.  I use CCI Mini Mag +Vs in it. Very accurate and is very well made.
