Do any of you fine gents own one?
Is it worth the $$, or am I better off saving for a Series 70 and sending it off to a smith?

Forgings > Barstock+CNC

I had a long talk with their rep at SHOT Show 2007.  He tried to convince me barstock is the same as a forged part.  No sale.

If your going to throw money at it after buying it, start with forged components.

If I bought an STI, I would leave it as is.
I always got the impression they were very good guns.
Was I wrong?

STI makes a range of guns, some of which get more fitting and attention than others.  The Legacy, I believe, is a higher end gun which is meant to compete with the Baer/Brown/Wilson offerings, and is generally regarded as a pretty good value in that light.

If it were my money, I'd send a Colt to a 'smith, if only because I'd get exactly what I wanted and not have to live with the choices STI has already made for me on the Legacy (though it's fairly close to the kind of 1911 I prefer).
