Well I watched alot of videos. And Read alot about the "combat grip" for the 1911. I seem to have everything right except I have the pistol in the web of my hand close to my thumb. I have seen some places that it needs to be in the middle of the web. That seems TOTALLY unnatural to me and I cant really get used to it. Should i just make myself get used to it or keep it the old way. Im accurate with my 1911 but I want to speed up my shot recovery time.

Brian Enos

He also has a book and some videos, but a USPSA class, or any pistol class would be best. Nothing like hands on training.

I know a few guys that had Double impact come up to our range and give a class. there response was well worth the money.

Well is it bad form if i dont have my right thumb(main shooting hand) above the safety? I sometimes have trouble getting the push safety to click when im trying to shoot if its above. But when i have it below it works fine.

What ever works for you.

the memory grove bevertail grip saftey was made because some people have a hard time  pressing in the grip saftey when using the thumbs forward grip.  Others on a compention gun (myself included) grind down the leg on gripsaftey. I dont do this on a carry gun.

This grip gets the pistol as low as possible in the hands.

When I'm helping students initially overcome bad habits I'm continuously telling them that if it feels wrong then they're doing it right.

If you want to achieve your goal you're going to have to work at it until it becomes instinctive.

Well I have the thumbs forward part down. But I would prefer to keep my right thumb below the safety because.. I can use the safety if i need it much faster, i also make better contact with the grip safety. That Todd Jarrett video your talking about is the one that made me try to roatate the pistol in my hand more to the left so its in line with my arm. It feels totally un natural and I cant even aim correctly. But like someone said up above "if it feels wrong your doing it right". Ill try to get used to it but i doubt it will happen.

I DONT SEE HOW HAVING YOUR THUMB BELOW THE SAFTEY VS RESTING ON THE SAFTEY IN THE THUMBS FORWARD GRIPS IS FASTER AT PUTTING THE SAFTEY IN OFF MODE.

The main reasons for "riding the safety" with your thumb above it are to keep from engaging it during the firing cycle and if you are puhing it down with your strong side thumb it helps fight recoil as a lever against the recoil. If you aren't going to "ride" it then use a small one but if you go out and watch a bunch of 1911 competitors you will see virtually all riding it with one or both thumbs for recoil control.....
I started with revolvers and have always shot with the weak thumb on top of the strong thumb....Not the better of the two grips but it has worked well for me.
Max and Travis are the best!
