Hey guys:

Picked up an SA Commander today ($250). Filthy dirty and barrel bushing requires bushing wrench to remove and install. Cleaned the heck out it and fired a few mags through it and functions perfectly.

Question is what the heck is this thing? Tried to do some research on it but came up with nothing.

Has Commander Model 45 on the slide, commander style hammer, chrome oversized beaver tail, standard mag well, fixed three dot sights, chrome barrel bushing and plastic ribbed trigger.

Appears to be on the shallower end of the SA gene pool but for what I paid for it what the hell..any clues??

Thx guys..

A picture would help. Springfield Armory made a 41/4 bbl combat commander in 88-89

The more recent offering is called "Champion" and has a bushingless bull barrel, so you've got an older model.  Sounds like a keeper.

I'd call Springfield customer service and run the serial # to get date of manufacture.
