i'm getting rid of my non-1911 handguns. i'm gonna stick with what i love the most, only have to buy one caliber , share mags and get good at one platform.
i am looking at the nighthawk 10-8 as my next 1911. what do you guys think? my only complaint is their permakote finish. it's nowhere near as good as the armor tuff on my wilson and i shouldn't have to pay an extra 350.00 for the black diamond. for the same price the wilson tactical LE is available with a great finish already. the 10-8 is just so unique. i love it's looks and the rear sight and dawson. what do you think?

Lets just say I wish I could afford it.  They're very nice and while I've never shot one I have heard stellar reviews about them.

I think that you'd be very impressed with the diamond black finish.

i've also considered the the predator and ofcourse the vickers but don't think i can stretch it that far or if they would be worth the stretch.

Go to some 1911 forums where you will probably get some better replies.  You have to remember...most guys that started on this forum were/are AR enthusiasts first and foremost and therefore when you start discussing a highly priced, scarce pistol not too many have them.  Then you figure that in w/ a predominantly AR type site and you can cut that number down substantially.

I own a Nighthawk and sell them where I work. While Nighthawk has many higher end guns than the 10-8, the 10-8 is still one of my favorites. I think Wilson's Armor Tuff is a little niver than NH's Perma Koat, but not by a lot. However, Nighthawks Diamond Black finish is one of the very best finishes I have seen on any gun. It isnt the best looking per-se, Diamond Black is a very dull, very, very dark grey finish. It almost looks like a dark dark parkerized finish. But it is very tough and durable. It's worth the money on any gun. I have several customers who have sent their Kimber's, Ed Brown's and Wilson's to Nighthawk to have the Black Diamond applied to those guns. Really, its good stuff. A 10-8 with that finish would really be sweet.

New-arguy, How would you say the Black Diamond compares to Hard Chrome. And do you have any experience with Ionbond? I have been trying to decide on a finish for my 1911.

The 10-8 is a great gun. I say go for it! Give the flat trigger a try as well. I got one and was instantly hooked. I've been forced to change all my 1911's to flat triggers now.

No experience with ionbond... sorry

I dont have *a lot* of experience with any of these but from what I can tell, hard chrome is also prety tough and one of the better finishes for a handgun. If you like the light look, go hard chrome. If you like the dark, go diamond black. If you like two tone, get both on the same gun!!!

If more experienced people have better info, I will gladly deffer to their knowledge.

The nighthawk guns are very nice.  Why not just save your money and have one built the way you want it?  It wouldn't really be that much extra cash.  Just my .02

Dont have a 10-8 but I have 2 NHs, a Talon II bobtailed and a Predator fully hard chromed.  Both are fantastic pistols.  My next NH will definitely be Black Diamond.  IMO You can't go wrong with anything NH makes.  All of their pistols shoot fantastic, and all are built to the same exacting tolerances.  It really comes down to what you want as far as features and looks.  I may get a Vickers in Black Diamond as my next one.

Have a GRP done up exactly as you want it.  It will come out to about 300 bucks less than the 10-8.  Apply that savings to get the Diamond Black finish.

If necessary, I can also give you rationalizations for hookers and whisky.

I have a GRP; first thing I ever shot that would make me give up my P7.
