The pawn shop in my town has a Colt 1911 that looks like a government issue Colt. The guy there says it was made for the Argentine Police Force. Anyone hear of such a pistol? I haven't had him take it out of the case so I can look at it, and I don't know much about pistols, I'm a rifle guy. I have always liked the 1911 and have been thinking of buying one. He wants $400 for it and it appears to be in very nice shape cosmetic wise. If it is in good mechanical shape is it worth the $400. Thanks for your time.

$400 is about the average going price.

Here is a pic of my Argentine Colt that I had some work done to. I found it in my brother's closet and got it REAl cheap from him. A local gunsmith put on a Commander beavertail and hammer, a short trigger, a tactical safety, Ed Brown slide stop, and sights off one of my Kimbers. He refinished the whole thing with Birdsong T (I think that is the name) a teflon finish. It turned out really nice and is a reliable accurate shooter. I have less than $450 in the whole project.

The Argentine 1911s, should be a good buy.  They were made on Colt machinery, and are exact copies, so any 1911 parts you get should work on them.

They are also on the C&R list, so if you have your C&R, and the dealer isn't an idiot, you can buy it with your license.

I wish some C&R dealers would find more of these... NOTHING like ordering a pistol on your C&R and having it shipped directly to you!
