I'm looking to buy another carry gun, been kicking around the idea of a Colt New Agent, but the damn thing don't have no sights, just a groove down the front. My questions are related to anyone who has shot them, how is reliability, practical accuracy range and whether it's worth buying one and having sights installed. Thanks, Don |
Installing sights on one would make it, more or less, a Defender which the New Agent is derived from and be pretty much pointless. Both 1911Forum and m1911.org have some good threads and m1911.org has an article in it's ezine about the New Agent. |
| Exactly if you want sights then get the defender and be done with it. I am sure someone could bubba the sights on, but with the sighting 'trough' and the pictures I have seen I don't think they can be installed aftermarket. From the things that I have seen on the new agent the only downside is the grip saftey seems to be uncomfortable, but it's a sweet looking gun. Like it much better than the Kimber RCP |
I have seen where a couple of owners have put Lasergrips on them. |

Yea, that's what I'm kinda after, the New Agent is much better looking than a Defender, the front of the slide and the blued finish is nice. I have a gunsmith nearby who does good work, it wouldn't be a bubba job, the dovetails would be done correctly, just don't know if its worth buying the gun and another 200 bucks for sights. I'm also looking at a blued SA micro compact, that gun comes good to go. |

1st New Agent Post New Agent Update Here are a couple of links to posts I made about my New Agent. I had some inital feeding issues but overall I still really like this pistol as a CCW pistol. It shot really well, and wasn't as bad as I'd thought to shoot well with the groove sighting system. It made me concentrate more on my point/shoot abilities rather than lining up the sights, which is probably more realistic in a self defense situation. I'm sure most bad guys won't stand real still for you like a bullseye while you sight them in just perfect. It ought to be back from Colt any day now, and I'll post an update after I get it back to the range, and have pics ready of the new beaver tail safety I had them add to keep it from blistering up my hand again. I've read many others who bought one and loved it and didn't have any of the feeding issues I had or the blisters. Also here is a link to and online article on the New Agent with pics, that was very informative and interesting New Agent Article |
| No malfunctions with mine, about 2 hundred rounds so far. I've gotten used to the groove for sights. I agree with the other poster, in a defensive situation, you probably won't be using sights anyway so it can't hurt to learn some instinctive shooting. The lack of the beavertail doesn't bother me when shooting. The gun conceals very easily. |
