I own an STI Trojan that I recently installed a new Ed Brown Mainspring housing on.  After installing the MSH, the beavertail grip safety will not work.  That is wether you engage it or not, the gun still fires.  I followed a video on line step by step for reassembling a 1911 and I can't get it to engage.

Is there a step I am missing?

I had this happen with a Les Baer.  the new MSH was sitting too deep and was causing the GS leaf spring to move forward.  Tweak the spring until it works.  If you can't bend it enough, you might have to relieve the back of the MSH a bit.

WHICH WAY DO I NEED TO BEND THE LEAF SPRING?

TOWARDS THE GUN, OR OUT TOWARDS THE MSH?
