anyone dealt with replacing springfield main spring housings that have the ILS? just wondering if the mainspring is shorter than normal since part of the system sits on the end of it, as i'm replacing the housing and doing away with the locking system.

You need both a new mainspring and housing.

And all the other small parts in the MSH.  Brownells has an area on their website w/ diagrams if you need it.

Yes call Springfield direct, they will be able to help you get the non-ILS mainspring housing.  It should fit with no problems.  You will need to get a new mainspring, mainspring cap, and a mainspring cap pin.

I left the ILS mainspring housing, but replaced everything inside.

The mainspring cap and mainspring are different than normal.

I tried calling SA to get a new mainspring housing w/o the ILS and with a mag well and they said no.  I bought a Smith and Alexander MSH w/magwell and used the same internals (mainspring, cap, etc).  I have 2K rounds with this combo and it works fine.  You just have to use the take down pin SA supplys to remove the MSH because the retainer pin won't fit.

Where in CO are you?   I'm near Loveland/Ft. Collins and can help you change it out if you are reasonably close.
