I can only speak for the Colt as I have never shot the Kimber but my Combat Commander has had no problems and is an excellent shooter.

I've shot and owned both, get the Colt.  I don't really like bull barrels and the 4" Kimber really isn't a Commander.  I'll take a real 4.25" barrel w/bushing commander

The Kimber is a damn fine gun, but I'd take the Colt Commander.

I had a Pro CDP and I now have a Colt XSE Stainless Commander as well as a Springfield Stainless Champion.  I prefer the steel frames of the SA and Colt over the aluminum of most of the Kimbers.  With Kimber and Series II now, I would absolutely go with the Colt and thier proven Series 80 or go with the SA and the original system with no firing pin block.  Which ever suits your preference...
