I'm confused whats the differences between the Springfield Armory Mil spec .45ACP and the Springfield GI .45ACP? It would be great if someone could list the differences and post some pictures. I'm going to buy it for target practice and maybe carry so i wanted to know the difference. Which one is closest to the WWII 1911?

the mil-spec is basically upgraded a tad:

better sights, flared and widened ejection port, and a few little machining areas (bbl hood i believe was one) are a tad different

i think the GI would be more in lines w/ the ones issued during WWII...but i'm not positive on that

here is a quick link to such a topic

Thats about the size of it.  I think the MIL-SPEC has a stainless barrel as well.

Top is my custom Mil-Spec, bottom is my stock GI 45.

All i've done to the Mil-Spec is new beavertail grip safety and hammer and extended safety lever. The slide is stock.

The main difference between the Mil-Spec and the GI 45 is the slide. The serrations are angled, the sights are taller three dot combat style, the ejection port is lowered and flared, the bushing is a semi-NM type part, and the barrel is one-piece stainless with a load chamber indicator cut in the barrel hood.
