do you leave your strong thumb on the saftey when shooting, or do you disengage the saftey, reposition your thumb  then fire???  just curious as to which would be "proper form"

Thumb stays on top of the safety while shooting.  In fact, don't think of it as a thumb safety; think of it as a thumb rest.
