I'm hoping I didn't make a stupid

A while back I started working on my Colt 1991.. got the firecontrol parts fitted(all wilson), and went on to do a beavertail(Smith and Alexander .250")... All went well till I went to install the grip safety WITH the firecontrol parts in place..

Hammer cocks just fine without it in place, however put the grip safety in, and the hammer won't go to full cock, it bottoms out with the grip safety, contacting the hammer right as the serrations on the hammer begin.

Here's some pictures..

Hammer at full cock:

Hammer as far back as it will go with the safety installed(took the safety off to make this visible):

inside the grip safety:

The hammer was initially contacting the spot I milled off in the safety, but now you can see in the remaining marking paint there is a spot of paint missing, that is where the hammer is contacting now..

Any thoughts? Was the S&A not designed for this type of hammer? Or is there something going on with the fit of the hammer/sear?

That's is what the package said, and it does clear the lever.

I'm wondering if it's just an out of spec part?

It could be.. since I had it milled out, can't return it to brownells though. Should I order another and try it?

If it functions, then just continue to remove the material until the hammer clears.  You can then buy some cold blueing and re-blue it.

I'd have to take it back down to the machinist..

I'm not one who likes looks but it would look fugly machined any more

I'm going to call S&A to see what they say, I really want this gun to be back up and running since it was my favorite

The fire control group is working great though, that part of the project has been a great sucess.

In case anyone wanted to see.. here is the GS installed with nothing but the MSH, grip safety, and thumb safety.. turned out nice

Anyone know the part number on brownells for the ring style commander hammer? Think I might order one and try it..

Contacted brownells support.. they suggested milling more and if that didn't work send it back for a refund/replacement. Their 'smith there said he's seen that only once or twice. Talk about good CS
