I was looking through the local gun store and found a Colt MKIV series 80 Government model for $499, It was blue, everything looked factory and had 2 colt factory mags with it, was polished blue, some blueing wear not much, Colt Mk-IV series 80 Had my gunsmith friend order me a caspian Recon frame from brownells, got it today, the fit and finish is top notch, looks great should make a nice new little fun gun. The top end didnt fall on, but its tight, I had to throw some lube on it, and with the factory recoil spring you can slingshot it to a closed point but I have some 800grit lapping compound that ought to do it some good. Right now it has no play at all, but lapping it will make room for the finish etc. am almost tempted to just shoot it in instead of lapping maybe someone can throw some feedback on that one. I plan on getting it hard chromed when I am done but will be using moly-resin on it till I get it done. Heres with slide/barrel installed. All the colt parts fit right in, got rid of the series 80 parts and it runs like a raped ape! ran 100 rounds of HP and ball through it this afternoon, Refinished the slide/frame with norrells for now. Anyway fitted the beavertail, not bad for a first timer! Got it all fitted and ready and dropped it off to get Novak sights cut and some frontstrap work and something else but dont remember also for a safety checkup and to make sure its all good to go. I have fired around 500 rounds through it to this point and its been good so far. as soon as it comes back will ship it out for some hard chroming or melonite. just put the grips that came on my RIA on it for its trip to smithing. Got it back from the smith this morning, he added stippling Novak rear sight, and worked the trigger over for me. Before adding some norrells After some norrels. Will have range report tommorrow. Am shipping it out either for Tripps Hard chrome, or melonite next month, gonna run a few hundred rounds through it first to make sure everything is to my likings Shumaker Gunworks |

No big deal. Somebody probably did it because they were having issues with the slide locking back on a non-empty mag. It's a common thing for action pistol competitors to do, but you usually see it on the doublestack 2011s as opposed to the single-stacks. Ed Brown Hardcore Slide Stop |

Shot it 150 times today and it ran like a top, rounds feed in really well, .all ejected cases were in about a 4' dia circle. no FTF, FTE nothing. I found I like the stippling more than the checkering and that the checkered mainspring housing just doesnt fit so am ordering a flat bare one to have stippled. Shot 50 Wolf 50 Fed hydra's HP's 50 Magtech FMJ's Shoots about 3" to the left a tad low, went from a 16# spring to a 18# spring and fixed that right up. still gotta correct the leftness but not sure which way to drift the sight. I loosened it up at the range but its tight, very tight. so no moving it by hand BTW Got my work done at Shumaker Gunworks in Stephenville TX. Great guy to deal with, put up with my annoying ass and still turned out a great product. Does fantastic work and only has about a 2-3 week backlog. Shumaker Gunworks |
