Hi guys,
I just switched my trp from a flgr to a standard gi plug setup, so I got an ed brown recoil spring guide and plug from midway.  In addition I got eb's drop in bushing.

The bushing needs some fitting, and I've never done anything like it before.  Is this something I can try myself-if so what stuff do I need?  Or should I try to track down a smith in my area?

I would not put a drop in bushing in a TRP. A gun of that caliber deserves a tightly fit bushing installed by a professional.

But to answer your question, if you are quite handy with tools and have the proper equipment it can be done. Whats wrong with the bushing you already have?

I've know of kimber mim bushing failing but I've never heard of a springfield bushing failing. I'd just stick with the OEM.

no reason to replace a stock TRP bushing, fwir they are already a pretty good fit. Unless you are using a ransom rest you probably would see no difference in accuracy and even if you were it would probably be less than a centimeter per group...

It is certainly not brain surgery to fit a barrel bushing ! If you buy a bushing from EGW, the internal dimensions are usually pretty close and the relief angle is already cut in.
Just need to fit the O.D. of the bushing to the frame.....tight enough that a barrel bushing wrench is needed to turn it.

But like has already been stated here ........... unless the bushing is falling out of your gun, you probably won't be able to tell the difference by replacing it with a new one - in the accuracy dept., using a combat stance.

If you want to squeeze more accuracy out of the pistol..............make sure that the barrel link is of proper fit and length. This effects the barrel's lock-up.......and can effect the accuracy. Consistent lock-up is very desirable. Improper fit can cause the barrel's lower lug to ride or pound on the slide stop pin OR [ at the other end of the spectrum] the lug can ride or "Stand on the Link"

JF.

to clarify, there certainly isn't anything wrong with the bushing, the gun shoots great, the bushing change was solely cosmetic.

I haven't researched mim parts for almost a year...if you can recall, does the trp have much mim stuff in it that could be cheaply replaced and fit?  I don't fancy myself shooting out any parts-just out of curiosity...

if you were going to replace all the mim stuff in the TRP you may as well have bought a baer or saved a couple more pennies fow a lower end brown/nhc/wilson...
