| I just saw one for sale, and I'm thinking about buying it. Anybody with one want to offer up any experiences? Reliability? Accuracy seems to be good as they supply a test target with the pistol. Also does anyone know how long this has been produced for and what a fair price is for one NIB. |

There's a hardchrome one in .45 at my local fun shop that keeps catching my eye. Brand new for $1400. I like Colt, but I just can't justify that kind of money on a Colt. Since it's around the price of a RRA and close to the price of a Baer or other semi-custom. Plus they only come with adjustible sights.... and the way they mount those Bomars is absolutely horrendous. Way too far back. I don't know. I want to like it, but I just can't seem to. |

They are Colt custom shop items. Every one I have seen or shot (4 total) have been very nice. In fact I would say worth the $1200 price tag. They are kind of the Colt Python of the 1911's. Should come with a factory target. As for fit and finish, the ones I saw look very nice. Fit was great, yes they have some slide to frame play, but they are supposed to. If i could afford one, I would jump on it. |
I think you made the right choice. Take a look at the Series 70 repros that they're selling from the custom shop for around $800. Now that's a stellar gun. I have one and it's one of my favorite pistols. Or look at any one of the other Colts out there. I think you should get a Colt... just not this one. This one isn't worth it like the other pistols in the Colt line are. |
Now that it's a no go I'll add my absolute disdain for Colt's marketing of this model. It is a target pistol akin to a Gold Cup. What do they call it? The "Special Combat Government"?! How gay is that? If you thought a 2-tone match pistol with adjustable sights is a combat pistol then you are "special" indeed. ![]() I have nothing good or bad to say about the quality of the weapon itself... I am just aggrevated at this thoughtlesss marketing, which is nothing more than shameless pandering to the public by employing Buzz worditis. Why not call it the Colt X-treme Crun-chew-eesy Government while they're at it... It would make about as much sense. |
Special = product of the custom shop Combat = It is set up for combat games Gov = it is a Gov pistol Gold Cup = Bullseye games. That is why is dosen't have a mag well, BT grip safety and extended thumb safety and the Special Combat does. Gold Cup gets the wide trigger and 2 recoil springs (one being a target spring). Also, the SCG has been around since the early 90's at least. |

I have a two tone Blue over silver SCG. I paid $999 for mine used, but it looks pretty new. Slide to frame fit is loose compared to my Baers, that's for sure, but barrel fit is excellent and accuracy has been more then satisfactory. The SCG is definitely not a carry or combat style firearm, but I didn't feel let down by mine for the money I spent on it. later, AJ |
Interesting info, FreeAmerican. Thanks ! Now maybe some people will sit down, talk less and listen more.
