If I were to get a springfield GI, but wanted a different hammer and trigger... (IE chip mccormick)  Are they simply drop-in?  Would reliability be in question if I changed out the stock parts (assuming I did it right)

The trigger is somewhat a drop in item (still a little smithing), where as if you are going for a commander hammer, it will need to be checked out against the FCG parts, and will not be a drop in item that will work with the stock grip safety (not enough room for the hammer to cock all the way back).

If you're new to 1911's I'd shoot the SA and see if you like it before changing out parts.

just buy a loaded.

Or if you buy a GI/MILspec send it to Yost-Bonitz. He'll fix it right up for you.

If you buy a matched set with Hammer, sear, and disconnector from the same company
there should really be no fitting involved.

Example www.cylinder-slide.com/

These parts require NO Filing or Stoning to work together.

You will have a much nicer gun for less $ and heartache if you just buy the "loaded" version up front!!
