Well, to make a long story short my grandfather who was a lifelong gun collector passed away two weeks ago. He knew that I was the biggest gun nut in my family.
In his posession were a NIB still sealed in the wrap/grease was a Colt .22 ACE in the origingal box with original papers (possibly a pre-war). Also in his posession was a Colt Gold Cup (maybe a series 80) 1911 which was unfired in mint condition but without the box. I'm not sure if I would fire either one, and if I did it would NOT be carried in a holster, only shot at a range type setting. Which should I choose if it comes down to that? I already have a Glock 17 and a Colt WWI 1911 that he gave me last summer as well as a Smith and Wesson K-22.

Nothing special about a gold cup 80 series.

I would keep the ACE.

Since the Ace has never been shot, that should answer your question, IMO. Gold Cups are a dime a dozen, relatively speaking.

Sorry for your grand-dad as well....................

He was a U.S Army engineer in Korea and also was involved in extensive testing of atomic bombs in Nevada during the war. Because of this, he got a flag on his casket and three soldiers from Fort Hood played Taps and folded the flag and gave it to my grandmother. Those guys did an EXCELLENT job, especially the trumpet player. It made me proud of my country and my grandpa. Our nation lost another good one.
