| Anyone using 400 CORBON conversions? How are they? |
|
I have an Ed Brown .400 barrel fitted to my Kimber Classic Stainless and it shoots great. Accurate and reliable. I run an 18.5# recoil spring in it and get just a tiny bit of primer smear. Recoil is about like a 10mm. Since I got my Delta I haven't shot the .400. Ammo is not cheap and I've read that it can be a PITA to reload. If you can afford a 10mm I wouldn't fool with the .400. I did kill a Florida whitetail with it and it did a fine job. Tomcatt |

I had an Ed Brown .400 Cor-Bon barrel in a Kimber Gold Combat for quite a while. I can't say enough good things about the round really. Very accurate, powerfull and easy to convert back and forth.....just a barrel (needs slight gunsmith fitting) and usually a slightly stiffer recoil spring. I found a 20# spring was perfect in my gun. I also tested the 135's, 150's and 165's and found the 150's shot point of aim in my gun, which was right on with standard 230gr. ball loads. Only downsides, availability of the round, price and I found reloading them to be a bit of a pain in the rear. |
