I saw a "new" item in the CTD catalogue showing a bushing replacement that had an extension with slots cut in it, like a compensator.  Can this work, or is it just another trinket to get $25 out of my pocket?  Any experiences?

If it's the same one, they have been at gunshows ever since I remember.
Yes, I bought one many years ago.
Besides the fact that barrel diameters vary, I doubt accuracy will remain.
And when they get dirty, the gritty fouling inside one grinds the barrel down.
I hope I saved you $25 + S&H

Exactly...

I *hear* that the .45acp does not generate high enough pressure to make a comp worthwhile. I don't know though, never used one.

Don't worry, never even considered buying one

A real comp will fit on the end of the barrel and in order to maximize the amount of gas forced thru the ports, will have an inner diameter just enough over that of the bullet to allow the bullet to pass without hitting the comp.  This will allow the bullet to sorta seal as much as the gasses to allow them to vent out of the ports.  Now with the bushing type comps, the barrel runs thru the bushing, so the inner diameter of the comp is at least the size of the outer diameter of the barrel......pretty loose to get any type of seal to vent the gasses where you want.  Save the money and buy more ammo for practice.

Tested one when they first came out, years ago.  Waste of money.  Doesn't do anything.  You'll get about as much improvement by painting flames on the slide.

Spend the $25+ on mag(s) instead. Its better spent that way.

FYI, flames happen to enhance acquisition speed and they match my airbrushed Jordache nut huggers, thank you very much!

Thanks guys,  I appreciate the input.  I guess you do get what you pay for.  .45 recoil doesn't bother me but I thought if it worked it might help follow up shots.  I get some Chip McCormicks instead.

Actually, flames'll probably help more...
