I'm looking to add another 1911 to the collection.  I'm planning to first shoot the gun as is then send it for some work to a gunsmith.  Which one is a better gun to build on later?

I have few other 1911 (STI etc) but nothing from Springfield so its between the two.

If you're just looking for a good base to build on go with the GI, it's a cleaner canvass to work off of.

Why would a GI be a better base??? I would thing the MS would be better, but then again im not in the biz.

GI:Straight serrations and a higher ejection port.
Mil-Spec:Lower ejection port, slanted serrations and stainless barrel.

Considering your going to have it built its really all cosmetic. It all depends on what your going to have done also. I have a Mil-Spec that I built up and really like the way it turned out. I think the only thing that came with my Mil-Spec is the frame, slide and barrel. Never one FTF, FTE or Failed to make me happy with its performance.(FTMMHWIP)
