Just got my first 1911, a Kimber TLE/RL II. Ive bought 5 Chip McCormick SS mags. I keep reading about how good Wislon mags are. I searched, but couldnt find any info comparing the two. How would you compare the two? Sorry if this has been discussed before, if it has, someone link the thread for me. Thanks. |
I guess what I was wondering was how do CM compare with Wilson...like a close 2nd, are they trash, or so fourth. I havent used them enough to really know. |

I haven't had much luck with the CMC mags. The only brand I trust for carry is the Wilson ones. But that's just from my own experience. If your experience shows you that they work perfectly, then go with what works. It's about 100% reliability, not popularity, or brand name. |
When I received them from Midway, the package had the words "Shooting Star Industries" or something like that on it, it seemed as if Shooting Star was the manufacturer or something like that. I'm just wondering if I got Shooting Star mags instead of the Match Grade mags? From the research I did, it seems as if the Shooting Star mags don't label the rounds by the witness holes on the sides, is that true? If so, that would mean that I have Match Grade since the rounds are labelled on my mags. |
| They do need to be the "Power Mags". They use a special spring that CM refers to as "Rocket Wire". I have a bunch of Colt 8 round mags that I'm doing Tripp conversions on, mainly to get away from the Devel style split followers. I'll lose one round of capacity, but should end up with much better functioning mags. And it is true, I have some light divots in the feed ramp of my lightweight Springfield that could have only come from the CMC mag followers. |
Before you get bummed try them, I have seen many people use them without a hitch. I use the powermags and have had 0 problems with them. |
havent shot it yet, hopefully monday. it looks and feels great though! |
