I'm looking at getting a threaded barrel for my Israeli made 1911. I am interested in finding out what the main differences are between the "drop-in" and the "Some Gunsmithing" barrels , other than the blatantly obvious. What part usually needs work to fit the barrel? The bushing area? Are the drop ins inherently a bit less accurate due to lock up?

I know Jarvis makes them and probably Bar-sto, but who else? Storm lake seem to make X40 TPI but I need X28 TPI.

Thanks

I recently bought a schumann barrel for a custom build and have been very pleased with the quality and workmanship. Might be worth talking to Will about what you are looking for. www.schuemann.com

Gunsmith type barrels are oversize and require extensive fitting.  See

http://www.blindhogg.com/gunsmith/barrel.html

"drop-in" parts aren't as oversized, and often require less extensive fitting.

they aren't necessarily "drop-in"

an improperly fitted barrel can result in damage, such as sheared lugs, broken links, etc.

GI guns were generously toleranced in part to ease changing of parts, such as barrels.
