Alright, well I'm interested in learning the correct way to hold a handgun (1911).

I am reasonably accurate with both hands, however, I am right handed and left eye dominant.  So a right handed grip FEELS better, but is awkward for quick aiming.

Can somone post pictures/descriptions (but especially pictures) of how they have the most success shooting?  Doesnt matter if you are a righty or a lefty, I can figure it out.

Thanks.

Obviously, dominant eye is a major factor in rifle shooting, but with a pistol, right eye or left eye is a non-issue.  You hold the gun the same way, stance is the same.  Only difference is you turn your head a little.  No big deal.

Close your left eye.  Line up your right thumb on the doorknob.  Now close your right eye and open your left eye, and again line up your thumb on the doorknob.  That's how much you have to turn your head to shoot left-eyed.  Big whoop.

Most important thing to know about holding an autopistol is, don't cross your left thumb over the back of your right hand!  That's a good way to tear the hell out of your thumb when the slide comes rocketing back.

Point both thumbs in the general direction of the target (like Jarrett shows).  On a 1911, the thumb stays on top of the safety while you are shooting.

Fingers on both hands are parallel to each other, not perpendicular.  Think of the spaces between your right hand fingers as "finger grooves."  Put your left hand fingers into the finger grooves.

Oh, and always shoot just like Todd Jarrett.
