| I have a High Standard base model 1911, It has been a really wonderful pistol I have about 500 rounds in it and it has worked remarkably well. Its has basic sights ect. Function wise its fine but I would like to increase its accuracy and for lack of better words, make it look better. I would like some input on stuff that I could safely do at home. Refinishing ect. I have a gunsmith friend who keeps trying to get me to spend more than I paid for the pistol its self. I did let him lap the frame and slide when I first bought it. With its reliability I would like to turn this into my carry pistol, but would like to do some basic mods first. Thanks for any and all help. |

It sounds like a nice pistol... congrats! The easiest thing to do is change the grips... here is a link to a topic with tons of links for grip companies, something in every budget & taste: Grip Links As for "home" projects that you can do to change your 1911's appearance.. check out brownell's for lots of add ons. |
| for accuracy, i would have the barrel bushing and barrel link changed. Also, if you still have the factory springs in it, i would suggest change the recoil spring and main spring. High standards are made by Rock Island, just High Standard roll marks, thats basically what i've done to mine. |
