Hi all,

I'm looking to change out the tiny little itsy bitsy sights on my Series 70 Combat Commander.

I really don't want to mill the slide at all since I inherited the gun from my Dad.

It's my carry 1911 . . . what would you all recommend?

I'm looking at King-Tappans right now . . . what do you all think?

Are you OK w permenant mods, or do you want to keep the slide intact (post sites, etc)

I'm pretty set on keeping it as "unmodded" as possible.  So, no milling right now.

Thanks!

I use a King-Tappan rear and stock Colt front on mine. Works great.

Check out the Yost-Bonitiz retro rear sight. No milling involved and it gives a great sight picture. Rear serrations and steel.

I put one in my "retro" SA LW GI Champion and it's perfect.

I was looking at that but I couldn/t figure out what height front sight to get.

The SA Custom shop did the work over a year ago. IIRC, it was .140 in height. The gun shoots dead nuts with it either way.

For carry? Trijicons.

This is their Commander set that uses the factory front tenon hole and rear dovetail.

Interesting!  I didn't know that you could get staked tritium sights.  It seems like the staking process would break the capsule . . . but I guess not

Thanks for all of the input . . .

Both Mepro and Trijicon have a "skirt" on the front sight that takes the force of the staking tool to keep from crushing the vial.
