I'm looking for a finish to put on a project ( frame & slide). My only requirements are non-reflective, black or something to that effect, wears well and can withstand a climate like south FL.
Anyone with first hand experience with finishes from companies like Robar? Opions on black hard chrome? I have a few months on the finish but i would like to get my ducks in a row. Thanks

You could try Black-T. Wears about like blueing, but has another coating underneath as well. You can run the gun dry, and not worry about heat/sweat/humidity doing its thing.

Check out Tripp Research.
They did one of my guns in hard chrome, but I understand their Cobra Coat is good as well. Quick turnaround too.

Or E-Treat from EGW.  It looks to be very similar to Melonite.

It sure looks interesting.  Do you have any personal experience with this finish and maybe some pics of it on a gun?

Melonite is almost identical to a Glock's finish, with a little more sheen.  If you handle a XD45, that's melonite.
