Well this is my first post in the 1911 forum and I just picked up my 1st 1911! I bought a SA Loaded MC Operator. I haven't shot it yet.. but that will change tomorrow. Soooooo..... What mods do I start with?? I'm thinkin a mag well to start, then MIM parts that are most suseptible to failure. So as I was saying, for those who have one or have had alot of experience with one what do I upgrade first... and why? I must say... I don't like the trigger travel before it starts to break. I would like to remove or at least reduce it by half. Thanks guys, David |
Then you must be more sensitive than 99% of 1911 shooters or you have a real crappy trigger. The take-up you describe is usually less than noticeable, IMO......... Personally, I wouldn't suggest any changes until 500 or so rds have been run through the gun................ My .o2 |

Hopefully without sounding pretentious, I take it you bought an Operator for defense purposes? (I don't see many lights on target guns) For use under those situations, pre-travel with both be your friend (less chance of an ND) and/or not noticable at all. That said, it is possible to add a trigger with "wings" on the bow to help take up some of the pre-travel. Modifying your existing bow is also an option depending on your smithing capabilities. A little goes a long way here... Just shoot the thing like you mean it for a while...you just might come to like it! |
You're right. I went to the range today and the travel of the trigger from static to initial contact before the break was not even a 2nd thought. HOWEVER... I replaced BOTH of the crappy SA mags that came with it. Every time I put in a newly loaded mag and dropped the slide, FTF!! I tried a Chip McCormick mag and a Wilson and the problem mysteriously went away. You pay this kind of $$ for a gun and the you shit mags. ![]() What's up with that?!? So I bought 2 of Chips mags and had no further problems. I was very impresses with the accuracy. Now it's time to shoot shoot shoot! I would still like to add a mag well though. David |

Mine may not be everybody's favorite way to do it, but I'm happy. Ed Brown hammer, sear, disconnect, firing pin stop, slide stop, and a few other various bits. Replaced the FLGR with a Brown button, slapped on a set of VZ grips, and left on the mag well that the previous owner had put on. I'm in the process now of trying to shoot it to pieces, and I just can't do it. |

I FINALLY found a holster for it with wverything I wanted in it. I went to Don Hume Leather. It's an Agent OT paddle. It also has a shirt/skin saver. The paddle it Kydex lined with leather, and the holster is leather as well. I'll try to get some pics tonight. $77 door to door. David |
