Has anyone ever heard of or seen clear grips before? I thought it would be cool.

I'd wager the drawbacks would be a plastic that "yellows", scratchable, breakable, and would have to be smooth finish in order to be "see through".

Then again, I've seen some pretty fragile "show grips" as well.

I've never seen them on a 1911. I've only seen them on an ASP. It's not a bad idea as long as the mags are cut so that you can easily see your remaining round count.

I've seen glass grips cut from the windshield of a jeep in WW2. They were pretty cool because the soldier had stuck pictures of his girlfriend underneath them. Neat piece.

my cousin got a 1911 in trade with some clear plastic grips.  They are FUGGGGGLY.  I'll see if I can get him to take a picture and email it to me, and I'll post it.

Gary Reeder puts them on one of his custom packages (clear grips, I do not know if he makes them or gets them from someone else).

I have a set on a old 92F I bought from some guy who couldnt say what he used to do for a living...

I like them.
I am getting them on a custom build I am doing.

They are nice as you can never really count your shots in a high stress situation but with those you can see what you have left with a quick glance.  Not often you can really do that but still its nice if you are able.

The ASP had them, I think it was one of the first guns to have them.

Interesting. Kind of neat. In the right setting, it could be awesome.
