Looking for a 1911 in .40 cal.

Want to spend up to $1200 maybe a bit more for just the right gun.

4" model wanted, but concerned about any cons with alloy frames.

Gun will be used primarily for carry, dependability is a concern. Not looking for a competition gun.

Which manufactures to look at?  (Kimber, para-ordinance, svi, sti)

Hi-cap not necessary or really wanted.

ANy info would be helpfull.

Thank you for your assiatnce

Any reason why you settled on a .40?
In any case, Kimber makes some good .40 1911's and their prices are reasonable.  You might also try STI, although I am not as familiar with them as I am w/kimber.  Just my .02, if you're going for a 1911 for CCW, just go with the .45, there are many more options as far as weapon size and manufacturer than if you limit yourself to the .40.  Not to mention, it makes a bigger hole, the recoil is not as snappy and well...its a .45

Gun is my Boss's retirement gift to himself. There is only one reason for the caliber consideration he, has ALOT of it stocked up. This will be his last purchase (so he says) and since he no longer wants to carry a Glock the only thing he wants is a 1911.

STI would be your best bet.  Now I dont know how common of a problem this is, but we could not get the STI supplied mags for the ss 40 to cycle factory 40 ammo. Even sent the gun and mags back to Tripp. No go. Replaced the mags with Kimbers 40 and all ftf issues went away.

STI Trojan in .40 tuned and chromed by Tripp Research.

I'm using Mec-Gar mags for the most part.  I have found that ACT-MAG and Wilson .45ACP magazines will feed .40 ammo fine.
