OK, grew up with a 1911 in the house and was stripping it at the pleasant age of 14; so, I'm familiar with stripping the basic 1911 pistol. Now, today I picked up a used 1991 A1 Commander, Compact (Like this one but with original grips) off of consignment at the local toy store today. The previous owner must have had an aversion to brushes and oil, so I gave it a vigorous welcome home bath. That is when the fun began.

Got the recoil spring plunger figured out quick enough but the firing pin stop refused to slide down so that I could clean that area. I used a flat tip screw driver and held the firing pin plunger flush with the bottom of the slide. While holding that plunger, I tried to depress the firing pin and slide the firing pin stop downwards. The firing pin did go all the way forward and was visibly protruding. Even held my mouth like and even tried but still No Joy. I just Kroil Oil'ed the heck out of it and am going to let it sit overnight to see if that will help.

Now, what is the obvious trick that I missed to get the firing pin out??

Thanks in advance,

wganz

pressing up on the plunger too hard will result in the same problem as not pressing it enough. The Firing pin will rwmain locked. Try different amounts of pressure untill the firing pin moves freely.

YEs - let it soak then try again -  Too much presure is the same as too little.
