has anyone had an issue with extended slide releases holding the slide open before the mag was empty. Has anyone had any type of extended slide release problems?

My first instinct is that you just added a drop-in part that requires proper fitting to your weapon.

Yes, I've seen them bounce & lock the slide back long before the mag was empty.
A solution looking for a problem, IMO.

best thing I ever did was throw that piece in the can.
My grip would cause my thumbs to push the slide lock up and lock the slide.

Get rid of it, and deny that you ever bought an extended slide release for your 1911.

Everybody has to try one once in their life. Then you realize that they are easily bumped causing your exact problem. Get used to releasing the slide with your weak hand, once you have inserted the new magazine.
