Hey all, im a 1911 newb and really hoping in my newbness i didnt do anything wrong, and just got my first one the other day, but now the slide stop doesnt work. So I just got the Operator a few days ago and decided it was time to take off the slide, look it over and check things out. I get it apart without any trouble and put it back together, after a little time i get the slide stop in and everything seems to be AOK. I rack the slide, but instead of stopping it just goes back forwards, well that's odd. Now the slide stop is pretty much limp, I can push it up into the slide and it will hold but it will not move on its own. I removed the slide again to check on the plunger tube and make sure the detent type thing was still functional and from what I can tell it still moves just as it did. I disassembled and reassembled for an hour or two with no luck, did I do something wrong or is it malfunctioning? Thanks in advance! (P.S. will post pics when fixed!) |
| It sounds as if the spring and tip is getting stuck behind the slide stop instead of going into the little detent on the side of the stop. Does the slide stop look as if it going in all the way and is almost toucking the side? Or is it out 60 thousands or so? Make sure the spring and tip is pushed into the retainer correctly and that there IS A little nub or tip on the end of the spring. The spring is supposed to be kinked in the middle to keep it in place but it does happen that they don't do it on occasion. I've seen some 1911s where you have to use a non scarring tool [cc or the like] to hold it back a bit to allow the stop to drop all the way into place. Do not shoot the pistol without making sure it is seated correctly, also did you have an empty mag in place, that has a know good follower? |
What type of mags you got? 47Ds? I carry CMC Shooting Stars on mine and I love them; i figured that would be part of the problem, something as simple as a magazine swap was tyhew answer; don't you wish it was that easy to fix everything? |
