I was at my local gun shop today and they had a HS 1911 going for $399 which seemed like quite a deal compared to the tricked out Kimbers next to it.  Now I know there can be no comparison between the two, however I was wondering what the popular opinion was on this gun.

Thanks,
~Dj

If the High Standard you're asking about is a basic GI gun, it is made by Armscor in the Phillipines and is identical to the Rock Island 1911 with the exception of the grips and the markings on the slide.

So then does this mean the it should be relatively good quality for the price?

Opinions on the Filipino guns vary but most guys who own them like them.

It pretty much comes down to buy the one who's roll mark you like best.  Ria, Armscorp. CD or HS.  I'm under the impression that they're all pretty much the same

Given the price I would be more inclined to go with the Springfield GI. The price difference isn't staggering and the reputation, warranty, and QC would have to be better.
