On the newest units they seem to be milled from barstock.

The ones I've seen for several years have been MIM.  Maybe they changed back.  That would be nice.  I haven't seen any problems with Springfields MIM extractors though, except they are usually excessively tensioned from the factory.

I changed out the one on my G.I. Champion. It appeared to me to be MIM. I found a hole on it that looked to have been a trapped air pocket that burst open.

So to err on the side of caution I replaced it with a Ed Brown "Hardcore" one.

I believe it is NIM. I changed mine out for a Wilson Bulletproof extractor.

Thanks for the input guys. I just ordered a Wilson Combat Bullet Proof from Midway USA for a little extra insurance and peace of mind.

My GI is an 06 model and the extractor looks like is made from bar stock; no injection holes in it; so i guess I am good to go.
