Could you guys show me any pictures of your Springfield Mil-Spec 1911A1 if you have them? I'm thinking about getting one soon but it will take some coaxing to convince me what I want first.

I wish I still had my 1911, but some bastard stoled it.

I have a Springfield Mil-Spec 1911A1 and I love it.  Go to the Springfield site to see a picture.  Or go to your local gun shop and they probably have one for you to handle.

Does the term, "Shoot - Shovel - Shut up", mean anything to you?    One bit of good new was one of the 8 other handguns that was stolen at the same time as my 1911 was recovered during a traffic stop.  I'm just waiting for the case to make it's way through the court system.  Then I'll get it back.v

This is my SA GI 1911.

Only diff between the Mil-Spec and the GI AFAIK, is the grips.

There are a few other slight differences.  The Mil-Spec has higher profile sights, a lowered and flared ejection port, a beveled mag well, vertical cocking serrations instead of slanted, and sometimes a 1 piece stainless barrel.  Also, older Mil-Specs have thicker front straps and dustcovers, with a less pronounced radius.

Here's a slightly modified Mil-Spec in stainless:

Nice, when did they start shipping with the foam lined cases? My friend got a GI about a year ago and it was still the plastic molded inside.

Well, my GI 1911 is an 06 Package, that also includes a belt holster, which seems to me to be made by Fobus (the only identifier it has is the MADE IN ISRAEL mark on the molded belt loop).

I think the foam lined case is for the 06 package. Just my .02

hobbs5624,

What are the details of your mil-spec?

It's a standard stainless Mil-Spec I bought many months back.  I replaced seceral parts, either because I don't like MIM in those areas, or because I don't like chrome plated parts on a stainless gun.  Springfield uses chrome plated barrels, bushings, recoil spring plugs, firing pins, firing pin stops, extractors, ejectors, mag catches, slide stops, hammers, mainspring housings, mainspring housing pins, grip safeties, plunger tubes, sear and hammer pins, triggers, and thumb safeties on their stainless Mil-Specs.

I installed a Novak plain black rear and Novak tritium front.  I also installed a Smith and Alexander beavertail.  I put in a Smith and Alexander checkered mainspring housing, and machined a pocket into the bottom for a recessed lanyard pin, like the GunRunners mainspring housing.

I replaced the bushing with a Colt bushing, and the barrel was replaced with a Colt barrel.  I also replaced the factory parts with the following:  Wilson extractor, Wilson firing pin stop, Colt recoil spring plug, Wilson ejector, Wilson extended mag catch, EGW slide stop, and Colt thumb safety.

I put in an MGW commander hammer, Greider trigger, Wilson sear, and Colt disconnector for the fire control parts.  Grips are some old Smith and Alexander I had layiong around.

This gun is about half done.  It will get a checkered front strap next, along with some nice custom grips, a trigger job, a new sear pin, and a new hammer pin.
