bought one and installed it, but i have mixed up the two recoil springs, i don't know which one to put in, one is shorter than the other.   I put the long one in and the action is real tuff to ppll back.  Should it be the short one?
Thanks

I am thinking that you also installed a new recoil spring.  The one that is shorter is the one that  came from the gun when you field striped the pistol.

For me shock buffs only work on Full Size 1911's. I only use them in  my 40 using a 14lb recoil spring.  IMHOP the 45 does not need one.

Are you putting it in a shorter then 5" 1911? You should have no problem with one in a 5" 1911, but it is really not needed [my personal opinion], the commander length is a crap shoot and shorter then that is a NO NO!! The slide on a under commander length needs every bit of room it can get to work properly on recoil. I would much prefer a new spring every 3K rounds over a shok buff and the shorter ones [1911s] every 1000 or so rounds.

BTW count the coils in the new spring and in the old, if there are more coils and the spring diameter is the same in the new one you could be running into stacking and you will destroy the spring in short order plus have numerous problems. I would not assume you got the correct spring til I did that. I only use Wolff springs as replacements.

Shock buffs are a waste of money IMHO. Your money is better spent on regular replacement of the recoil spring, 18 to 18 1/2 Lb springs being my preference.

I agree with SGB regarding the use of 18# springs.  I don't know why the spring you received from Wilson should not work, although it may feel stiff.  Is the shorter one used?  Do they both have the same number of coils?

I personally would never use a shok buff in a pistol I use/carry for personal defense.  It prevents the slide from being released from slide lock by further forcing the slide back.  Additionally, there are reportedly rare instances in which the buff has torn and jammed the gun, although I have never had a problem with them.  I will occasionally place one in my range pistol if I plan a lot of shooting, although I question how much it really reduces wear.

P.S.  I placed an order with AIM recently and received excellent service.
