Just picked her up today. She has a custom triger job, done by a local smith (very nice feels like about 3.5 pounds and breaks very clean). the same smith installed and blended the S&A magwell. Traded a glock 34 and some ammo for her. The first thing I did when I saw it was take off the wrap arounds and look for corrosion. Of course it's there, the guy I traded with couldn't believe it.
This is my first 1911 in about six months. I had a few bad experiances with a Kimber TLE II. So when I finnally got it running good I sold it and my Kimber Classic custom (I miss that one) and bought a Glock. Well, glocks are reasonably accurate, utterly dependable, blocky and soulless and 1911s are addictive, so I'm back again. Hoping a Springfield will work out a little better for me than Kimber did.

As you can see she has a few scratches and the obligatory idiot mark. The first thing that has to go is the wrap around grip. I both hate the way they feel and look. I'm hoping to replace them with a set of diamond wood black/silver grips. Next i'll put some night sights on her, preferablly and adjustable plain rear with a front tritium dot, any ideas? Since the front strap has some light corrosion, I have the perfect excuse to send her off and have it checkered and the whole gun refinished. Without any complaints from the wife (she likes it because it's shinny). So I'm thinking of either have Springfields custom shop do the work or sending it off To Tripp to have them do a matte chrome on it and checkering. Or possibly two toneing it black chrome slide and small parts, matte chrome frame. Opinions?

Well I got adveturous tonight and polished the front strap. The slight corrosion was driving me nuts. So I got out the masking tape, sand paper, flitz and dremel. I removed the beadblasted texture with the dremel and then wet sanded and finally polished. Heres the result.

This will have to do untill I send it off to springfield for checkering and a matte finish on the whole gun.

Got my grips and some parts from brownells today. I installed a pair of silver black grips from gungrips.net, a Wilson BP slide stop, a Wilson BP extractor and a Wilson tactical mag release. Here's the finished product.
