| I know a guy who is wanting to sell a Kimber Compact Stainless with three mags. Can someone tell me what the pistol itself is worth, used, in very good condition? |
| I'm no expert, but here is my opinion. Kimber says a new one is worth 914. I've seen used ones with holsters and extra mags for 800, excellent condition. You can buy a new one for 760 plus shipping if you find the right place. Mags are like 15 dollars each, unless he has the stainless or nickel ones. If he has less than 500 rounds through it, i'd start at 650 and see where it goes. personally, i wouldn't pay over 700 for it because i could buy a new one with 3 extra mags for 830 dollars. Visit gunsamerica.com. Hope I helped. |
| Does it have the external extractor or internal?? if it has the external extractor I'd see if I could run some ammo through it first.. Kimber's external extractors have a poor reputation, Kimber has in fact switched back to the internal (as JMB designed in the first place) design. I would think twice about it if it has the external extractor, On the bright side, Kimber has been replacing slides with external extractors with new ones with internal extractors, so, if it does act up, you just may get Kimber to replace the slide. If it has the external extractor I would'nt offer him more than $600 just because of the possible extractor issues, and future shipping costs to Kimber to get it fixed. |

Ralph is right on. If it's in good shape, $650 on the high end, $550 on the low. I saw one here sell last year for $450, and you should have seen the feeding frenzy. I would pay $600 for one if it's a gun I liked, but I would not go higher. Let us know if you get it. Nice Avatar by the way. I've seen it many times, and it just hit me who it is. |
| I would be highly suspicious of low ball hand guns. It usually means that the gun is got a problem and he's offering it to you so low that you cant refuse. Take it to the range and go through a box or two, of different types of ammo. Watch the gun, and examine the target. Then take it apart, clean it, and see what its like inside. |

I have a compact stainless Gen 1 and it shoots great. The frame is Officers size and slide is Commander sized. I've often contemplated to sell or not. I've almost traded it. The reason I would sell is that the officer grip does not fit my hands. So it sits in a safe collecting dust. Sometimes I wonder if I should just sell it since I'm not using it. Point is, find out why he wants to sell. $550 is a fair price without the holsters and two extra mags if the pistol runs good. $650 is about right if it's Gen 1 (No swartz safety mechanism and internal extractor) $550 for a Gen 2 (due to swartz safety and external extractor) + / - for mag brand and holsters. Just my opinion. |
