20.  Some I use and some I do not.  Some are junk that I have collected over the years thinking one day I might get them working.  Replace springs and fallowers.  I carry two spares.

Not very many!  I wish I could say I had 87, but I really only have about 6 or 7 for the last 2 1911's I still own.
5/2/2006 7:31:37 AM EDT
[#4]
At least 6 for each 1911 that I own.  I have 2 basic sizes - full size mags and officers mags.  I also have 3 10 round CMC mags that I use in steel plate matches.

Crap.  I forgot about the officers mags.  I think I have 5 or 6 of the Wilsons and 4 others of various manufactuers.

47 mostly Wilsons

10. I could probably use 2-4 more (only 6 are Wilsons, and 2 of those are the Bueracrat 10-rounders)
5/2/2006 3:00:07 PM EDT
[#13]
12 Wilson 47D's and 5 Wilson 47T's for one 1911. I plan on adding more to the stable but prefer to have at least 10 mags per.

about 15 extra that just sit in a ziplock bag in the safe.  Only use about  6, 10 round  (IPSC) or 4, 8 round (IDPA) wilson mags.
5/2/2006 4:20:02 PM EDT
[#15]
3-2 Sa that came with the gun,  and 1 Wilson47dcb. I plan on using the loaded cupon to pick up more from springfield and then add more wilson later.

I have about 50 mags for the 1911, most either Wilson 47 or Metalform 7-rd mags.
5/2/2006 6:44:32 PM EDT
[#17]
About 30, mostly Wilson.

The off-name brand mags I have accumulated over the years I use for dry practice with dummy rounds.

Lately I've been buying the Wilson black stainless mags with the alum and metal base plates.

WOW! Guys.................I thought keeping a large supply  of mags were just for assult rifes...................... I have 8-47d's 2 acts 8rders that came with the gun................I have a coupon for 99.99(that also came with the gun) I can get 6 more acts but I am going to get three more 47ds............................

Should clarify that I have 3 categories of mags:

1/working mags, which are kept pristine and not abused
2/IPSC/IPDA/Practice mags, which get mistreated a bit
3/unserviceable mags, which I use for dry practice, loaded with dummy rounds

[#20]
I believe every gun needs ten mags for it, minimum. I have three 1911s, so a little more than 30 mags makes sense to me. All my mags are 7 round flush fitting mags. All my mags have 11 pound Wolff springs, and flat, dimpled followers.
Speaking of followers, anybody know where I can get replacement flat dimpled followers?

4- 8rd CMC Power Mags for carry. 4-8 rd. mags for training/IDPA.
5/3/2006 2:05:22 PM EDT
[#22]
(21) 7 rounders and about (6) 8 rounders, consisting of Colt factory, USGI, and wilson mags.
5/3/2006 4:58:30 PM EDT
[#23]
Springfield GI 45 - 4 seven rounders
Para CCO 45 - 2 seven rounders

Why would you need more than 2 or 3?
5/3/2006 5:34:13 PM EDT
[#25]
ipsc has high round count stages. you need lots of mags.

idpa has lower course of fire you need 4 mags. 1 charging mag 2 on your belt and one in the gun.

I'd love to say that we'll hardly see the day where they go after 7rd mags, but nothing surprises me these days.

A more practical answer to this question however, is that we are not dealing with rifle mags. There are guys who have found a 1911 mag or two stuffed with hardball that was laying around in a box since the 1980s, and on a lark they took it to the range to fire it fed and fired flawlessly. Nevertheless, it is suggested that pistol mags get a break and you change the ammo out of them every month or so. Therefore a guy with 6 mags can have a pistol mag and 2 spares and a set of empties to swap out at the end of the month, or a pistol mag with one spare, and 2 sets of empties to swap out.

I like having eight per weapon (1911) or five per weapon (Glock).

[#31]
Full size: 12 Wilson 47D (I need more!) 2-7 round Springfield's that came with the "Loaded", 1-7 round Kimber that came with the Warrior (I'll never use either of those probably) 1-8 round Devell from "back in the day" as well as probably 6 or 8 -7 rounders of various quality from back when I had my Combat Commander (these are burried somewhere in my "stuff"...........).

Officers, I have 2-6 rounders that came with the Micro (won't use) 2-7 round Kimbers I bought for it, as well as one Wilson 7 round compact. Realistically, I would probably carry full size 8 round 47D's for spare mags with the Micro, so I don't need any more small ones. But I do like a flush fitting mag for that gun, any protrusion seems to me to partially defeat it's purpose of being small.

7 Wilson 7 rounders.

Carry? One in, 2 extra.

For practice/range? 20 or 30 or so, I think...

For carry, why two extra? If I find myself in a situation where I'm on my last 7 round mag, having emptied the previous two...well, I am woefully undergunned at that point, and should have planned better. Hopefully backup is on the way, but otherwise...I just jumped into a pool that's too deep for me, and it's time to find a way out.

0, but then again, I don't own a 1911.  If I did, I'd have a min of 10 reliable mags (wilson).
5/8/2006 7:36:11 PM EDT
[#36]
14 Metalforms with Wolffs 11# springs, 4 Shooting Stars converted to 7rounders, 4 CMC Powermags.

i got 2 one 8 rounder that came with it and 1 nromal one i think its 7 rounder and hoping someone will want ot get rid of some junk mags
5/9/2006 8:53:03 AM EDT
[#38]
11 Springfield factory 7 rd, the one that came with and the 10 I got with the loaded coupon.
5 CMC 8 rd. Shooting star, I think.
2 that I've had since '92, I have no idea who made them.
18 total.

I also think I have a couple old GI ones somewhere with all the rest of my leftover Army crap, but I can't swear to that.

I like having lots of magazines because I'd rather spend my range time shooting instead of loading magazines. I can load mags while I'm sitting at home watching TV.
