| I just bought a Pro Carry II, I never thought A quality pistol could make that much of a difference. Excellent purchace, worth every penny. |
The more I look at 1911's even the PC's I want one. Damn sexy. |
Is that some kind of machine checkering? |
Nope, it a Wilson slip-on, ten bucks from Brownells. Great little trick for those who like a checkered front strap but don't want to spend the money for a 'smith to alter their gun permanently. Also a good idea if you think you'll like the feel of a checkered gun but aren't sure. If you dont' like it, you can just remove it and you're only out ten bucks. www.brownells.com/aspx/NS/store/ProductDetail.aspx?p=16409&title=1911+AUTO+CHECKERED+FRONT+STRAP |
Try www.flyingtigerssurplus.com that's where I got the signal corps insignia. Duke-Nukem is correct: the front strap checkered piece is the Wilson slip on. I'm still not sure that I want the front strap checkered so this was a cheap substitute. May try skateboard tape but the thought of sticky tape goo on my pistol doesn't really appeal to me!! Diamondback A 45 may not expand but it will never be smaller than .45.

It's not bad for the price ($10) but it does slide up and down a little. A little double sided tape will stop it, but I keep forgetting to get some tape. The checkering (punching) is not as abrasive to the hands as 25 lpi checkering. I have no trouble shooting 250 to 400 rnds at a session. Right now don't have the money to send it back to Kimber for checkering so it's ok for the time being. Still trying to decide if I really want the front strap checkered. I would like to try shooting a gun with the stripled front strap but the range I shoot at doesn't have a rental gun with that feature. So little money and sooo many guns!!!!!!
