Remember that the Gov't required the GI guns to hold about 6" groups at 25 yds (IIRC) with GI ball, favoring reliability over small groups. Many people get hung up about small groups and forget this. This is better than minute of bad guy. I'd say that your gun would fulfill the mission intended. Buy more ammo and train, enjoy your new piece. |
What you have in terms of groups is typical for FMJ vs. SWC. You probably won't see match grade accuracy unless you go out and get either the Remington or Hornady match grade 230 FMJ bullets, and then handload until you find the magic load. I shoot the Black Hills 200 SWC for bullseye and it's about 3" at 50 yards. Shooting off hand also means your trigger control has to be that much better because any off center pul will throw the shot out of the group. You groups look fine. Keep practcing and they'll get better.

Thanks, I think my goal is for this gun to look milspec and squeeze as much accuracy out of it without making it look too customized. I don't, know that may mean eventually getting a better barrel / bushing combo and a trigger job like you say. That rear site I put on there because it was shooting real low, otherwise I would've just left the stock one. Thanks for the comment though. |
I've heard 3" a couple times and I was thinking my practical accuracy was terrible. Thanks for making me feel a little better. Really my goal is to be a good defensive shooter and I need to get into some classes for this, but I also like improving my accuracy too, which I should probably get trained professionally on too. BTW, it's not new. I got over 1000 rounds through that thing. It's about a year and 4 month's old. Thanks for the input |
Yeah, I got to get into handloading. Me and a friend are starting to gear up to do this. Only problem is I just bought a home and have alot of work to do there too. All the projects. But beyond that, I wish I could shoot the wwbs or some kind a little better, I think I've seen people actually get small groups with it. That was the only drawback to my test was I didnt' have WWB. I do now though. After the price hike, it's still not all that bad at walmart. I paid $ 20.98 for a 100 box.Thank you too for the input. Thanks everyone. So you actually use the BH to compete instead of handloading? |

the biggest favor i did for my Mil-spec was install a EGW ANGLE BORED BUSHING from brownells it made a bigger diffrence than i thought it would. i have no problem getting the bullet right where i want it now. ETA: www.brownells.com/aspx/NS/store/catsearch.aspx?k=egw+bushing&ps=10&si=True |
| Thats about how my Mil Spec shoots. I think it is one of the best values out there. Mine has been 100% in functioning. I feel it is the best 1911 for someone starting out. You should be able to get one under $500. Shoot it for a while, and change out what you want. It also makes a great base gun. |

Thanks parabellium, I may try that. Scot45, thanks for the post. Mine has been 100 percent function also. It had one stove pipe in the first 100 rounds and I wasn't the one shooting it. So I'm not sure what to think. But that was seriously the only hiccup it had. Maybe the guy limp wristed it. I don't know. I did have the slide not lock back after the last shot once, but I believe it was almost for sure the mag. |

Great Job !!! You're improving. The one thing that will help tighten those groups and make your pistol a sleeper is a tight match barrel bushing. A barrel bushing from EGW like suggested earlier would work great. You can get them from EGW directly for about $20. But I suggest having it fitted by someone that knows what they are doing. Leave the trigger job for after you have mastered the stock trigger feel. Then a trigger job would shine like a diamond in a goats butt. |

But beyond that, I wish I could shoot the wwbs or some kind a little better, I think I've seen people actually get small groups with it. That was the only drawback to my test was I didnt' have WWB. I do now though.
