I'm thinking about buying a Commander sized 1911 to add another to my collection.

I'd like:

Parkerized or 2 tone finish, not all shiny
Aluminum frame
4.25" bbl
No extra safety devices (no Kimber IIs, no Series 80s)

What are my options?

Springfields closest is the Champion line.  It has a 3.9 inch barrel.  It also has an aluminum frame.  www.springfield-armory.com/prod-pstl-1911-ch.shtml

Click on the lightweight model.  Black/OD- Looks pretty slick.

Kimber Pro TLE II is another option, 4.0 inch barrel- bypassing the series 2 mechanism is VERY simple.  Its almost as simple to completely disable it.  Bypassing it can be done with a standard series 70 firing pin- that is what I have done to mine, and it has worked flawlessly.

The Pro Carry II is has an aluminum frame, and is most similar to the springfield above- heres a link to the pro TLE II

www.kimberamerica.com/pistols/compactprocarry/protle.php

In addition to that, you can modify series two components to be completely useless.  All you have to do is mark the part that sticks up through the frame with a grease pencil- remove it, and dremel off the portion that sticks up.  Reinstall so that everything in there is secure, and voila, you don't have any holes in the frame for crap to come through, and you've disabled the series II safety with no adverse effect on reliability/function.

I'd have no problem helping you do any of these mods.  Now that Kimber is back to internal extractors, you shouldn't have a problem

The TLE Pro can also be had in railed form as well, if thats your thing.

Obviously, there are more expensive options, but these are the lesser expensive options.

Wilson makes a few shorter barrel 1911's if you're looking to spend more money.

I can't belive no one has said it.  MINE
Does not have alum. frame sorry.  I like the 1911 in the all steel version.  This one is basic with a few visual enhancements but built not to be shiny or flashy just what I needed as far a a carry pistol.

I have a Kimber 5" now.  I love Kimbers but I will not consider a Series II.  Sorry, but they've really lost my interest when they catered to the libtards and installed such devices.

The S&W looks really good.

Kimber got tired of customers yelling about 1911's that wouldn't run due to extractor problems, so they decided the best move was to go back to the undicked-with internal extractor.

Did you even read my post at all?

If it has any safety devices that JMB didn't install, it's automatically excluded.

yea, I read your post. You must not have read mine. You're the one who said "The S&W looks really good" while at the same time saying you would not buy a gun like the Kimber with a firing pin safety. I was just trying to tell you the S&W  has the same safety as the Kimber, which you say you don't want. Whatever.

4.15" barrel (in 40S&W.)  Nice to have 19+1 rounds on tap....  15+1 with the flush mag.

ETA:  They make a "Lite" version too with an aluminum frame.

Here's my current favorite.  Of course, I am biased because it's mine .  I like the commander sized 1911's very much, probably because it was the first 1911 I started with.

Jardine custom (except for the nicely executed 30lpi frontstrap checkering by Ted Yost's shop).   Lomount, protected Bomar rear, dovetailed front, flattened and serrated top of slide, carbon fiber trigger, french border, Ed Brown internals, national match bushing and Kart NM barrel, etc.

To each their own.  You don't like it, bully for you!  That is the great thing about the choices in the market these days, you can get what you want.  Oh, and it isn't a wanna-be 1911, it is a 2011, so it is 100 better than a 1911!

My favorite is the Stainless Colt Lightweight Commander that I foolishly sold off several years ago to buy a Glock. Please don't beat me! I feel bad enough about it as it is. I like Glocks, but my first love in firearms was and always will be the 1911. I sure wish I never sold it. That was a sweet pistol. It was my constant companion for about two years. Sometimes I really do some dumbass things.
