is it too late to find a decent 1911 (or variant) for ~$500 with no MIM parts? though i don't think it's asking too much ... all the SA and the like in this price group seem to be predominantly MIM. it seems to me about 5-10 years ago, one could get a decent 1911 with all steel parts for the same price (which means inflation-adjusted price much lower).

sorry, i know this has NEVER been talked about before ;)

If you're lucky and find a guy that has one that's replaced all the MIM parts, and needs money REAL bad, then maybe, but don't count on it, cause I'm looking for him too!

430 for a GI....they go for 517.00 around here....brand new

If you can find one of those ugly old rollmark Colt 1991s for around $400 or so, you should be able to replace the MIM in it for under $100.

Very True, I picked up a Stainless 1991a1 Frame / Slide and barrel off the EE for $350........added a few parts and presto changeo a complete Colt with no MiM for under $500.
