I am looking for a good reliable 1911 with some fixed Novak night sights.  I was looking at the SA 1911 but, from what I have read they are not to reliable sometimes out of the box.  My budget is about $1000 give or take a little any help would be greatly appreciated.

Totally agree with SGB. But that's easy since he's seldomnever wrong.

I thought I was wrong once but I was mistaken. sgb

Kimber.  Pick a model that fits your needs.  You pretty much can't go wrong there.

Might be above what you're looking for, but I love my springfield TRP.  Used ones turn up for under a grand and with the lifetime warranty from Springfield if anything goes wrong, send it back.

One heads up is that if you're willing to look around, I know Springfield Armory sells its dealer demo/sample guns (most have been finger fornicated but not shot much) for a pretty good discount at Camp Perry every year.  Not sure if they do that elsewhere, but its a good way to get a good pistol at a nice price.

Springfield 9109L.  $600 and mine feeds fires and extracts everything I've ever put through it.  FMJ, XTP's, Ranger T's, Gold Dot, it doesn't care, just eats 'em up and asks for more.  Limp wristing doesn't seem to matter to it, it just keeps cycling even when running hollowpoints.  By the way, I'm using the cheap little 7-round mags it came with, nothing special.  MJD

Take a good look at the Smith & Wesson 1911.  It's gaining a reputation as the most reliable and accurate out-of-box 1911, and is certainly the best value per dollar on the market.  Lots of scare stories about MIM parts, but very few actual breakage reports.  Very solid pistol.

The S&W's use a lot of high-end components and assemble them very well.  Fit is great on every one I've ever handled.  Is it the best value, maybe.  Unfortunately, I won't buy a firearm that has etched on the side, "Warning: Capable of firing with magazine removed".  I know they did this so they wouldn't get their asses sued off, but it detracts from an otherwise excellent (looking) firearm.  MJD

+1 for kimber

a warrior, or older TLE would be nice

SA's operator/TRP (used)/ loaded would also be a nice choce

SW 1911s are also very nice, and the external extactors on em are nicer looking and more functional than the ones i hear about on the kimbers

my buddy's 1911sc is VERY nice--i almost like it better than my kimber tle--no problems w/ either one

I'm going to suggest a Dan Wesson or Kimber based on my experiences with both so far.

I'll agree with the Dan Wesson.  My commander was the first 1911 out of the box that never had a stoppage.  I had to give the sights a little windage adjustment and that was it.  My next 1911 will be another DW.

Deffinitely check out Kimber.
Custom or TLE Would be my choice, and either one is under $1000.  YOU have enough change for some Wilson mags and ammo.

Thanks for the info.  I am going to check out the Kimbers, SA, Dan Wessons, S and Ws.
I have a bit of time to make my decision.  There is so many guns and so little money.
