I want to know if there is a 1911 kit i could buy so I could put together my own 1911. I figure it is the only way to know a gun inside and out since you need to put it together. I don't want to buy one and take it apart and not know how to put it back together.

Don't we all wish!!! Closest thing I've ever found was the Brownells catalog and a new credit card.

EE is th eonly way to go....

I picked up a barrel and slide as well as misc. parts from a member, then I picked up other small sundry parts, wound up slowly pieceing together a 1911 for under $450 CDN (I used a Colt 1911 WW1 frame I had, paid $160 for it as a complete pistol with a 9mm barrel and slide on it as well as other parts I did not care for)

Who made the parts? Any MIM in there?

No idea.  I've heard they are GI surplus, for whatever that may be worth.

If it were me, I'd use the kit as a starting point and replace the ignition set with non-MIM parts down the road.

Sarco.com and several other vendors (sportsmansguide.com) sell complete-minus frame kits...

If all you want is a shooter, that should work perfectly...

Sarco also sells frames...
