I purchased a new Colt 1911 Government model around the same time OP bought his classic model. Not much difference other than a metal A1 style main spring housing. Worry for the potato pic I'm on my cheap 40 dollar tablet and it doesn't have a very good camera. Attached File |

Gonna have an update soon on my Colt Classic. Bumping thread from the archives. How she looks before next upgrade  Has the original steel 70 series trigger was the last update. Until then gents, stay tuned! Also keep on posting those classic/series 70/pre war Colts! |
  Very happy with this one I picked up recently. I installed a 10-8 Performance national match rear sight, and had Novak cut a dovetail and install one of their brass bead front sights. I also installed a Wilson retro thumb safety, it dropped in with no fitting required. |

Yes I use the stuff myself for things I carry outdoors. Back when I was going for turkey hunt I would use the wax on the exterior of the shotgun and it never rusted outdoors. It’s a great thing to have for conceal carry especially if you sweat a lot and you can be sure it won’t rust. |

@Solo_ I reread what you posted and I still wouldn't punch you. That 1944 has a lot of character to it and is a keeper in my book! Thank you for the kind words. The only clue I will give about what is going on with Colt #2 is part it is in REALLY REALLY excellent hands. Colt #1 got some little updates, arched mainspring housing and the same stocks as Colt #2. Colt #1 is perfect in my book.  Colt #1 is just covered in a thicker breakfree oil in this pic as she is going back in the box as I like to call being mothballed. |

How it started, just a factory laser engraved slide.  The roughness of the engraving bothered me so hit the engraving with a sharpening stone to knock down the slag.   Sent off to Colt to see if they would restamp the slide, they did make it better by "polishing" the sides and reblued it.  Then after some research I found a top notch master engraver who was able to restore the rollmark as it should have been from the get go. Bertram @ http://www.westernengraver.com/home.html was the one who worked his magic on this build.   Stunning work by Bertram who did this restoration by HAND! Adding: will be doing touch up bluing to cover the exposed metal from the engraving. Would definitely do it again! |
