I am about to be in the market for my first 1911 and I am curious what everyone recommends as a first 1911.  i don't want one that will cost a fortune as I'm sure it will get an idiot mark on it.  I am looking for one that will be reliable but not cost a fortune and will allow me to learn the platform on, but not feel bad when it gets some character through use.  Thank you all for the help in getting me into the 1911 world!

Rock Island. They have everything from really basic GI stuff to guns with bells and whistles. Great factory support too.

See if you like 1911's before you think about spending big bucks on one.

The idiot mark is not mandatory.   But lots of used 1911s have them if you really want one.

If you go used, just be sure bubba the gun plumber did not have his way with it.
